Homework Hint: Problem 6/68

- It is recommended that you treat the system of two bars as a single rigid body.
- Recall that Newton's equations require the usage of the acceleration of the center of mass. Therefore, you will need to locate the center of mass G for the system as part of your kinematics.
- In Euler's equation, it is recommended that you use the fixed point O for the summation of moments. This requires that you use the mass moment of inertia about O. To find this mass moment of inertia, first use the parallel axis theorem to determine the mass moment of inertia about point O for each bar. Then add these two together to find the total mass moment of inertia about O.
- Be careful with signs in your kinematics when relating the acceleration of G to the angular acceleration of the system.
