Problem 6/11

I am coming close to the correct answer and think that my problem may be my FBD. I have mg, the N force, and a force F which is P*(coefficient of static friction). Am I missing something?

  1. You need two FBD's for this problem: one for the cabinet and one for the cart.

    * For the cabinet you have weight and two normal forces in the y-direction. In the x-direction you have two friction forces.

    * For the cart, you have the equal/opposite of the normal forces acting on the cabinet, weight and reactions from the floor. In the x-direction, you have the equal/opposite of the friction forces on the cabinet as well as the applied force P.

For tipping, set the normal and friction forces on the cabinet at B equal to zero.

I am not sure about your P*(coefficient of kinetic friction force).

Let me know if this is not clear.
