Practice final exam - reminder

The practice final exam will be given this evening from 6-8PM in Room ME 261. We plan to grade the practice exams immediately after the exam is over. If you want to see our feedback this evening, you can return to the room between 10:00-10:30PM. Otherwise, you can pick it up in tomorrow's class.

The intent of the practice exam is to give you an opportunity to get feedback from us on your work. If you feel that this will help you in preparing the final of Wednesday, we welcome you to participate. If not, that is OK, too. You are the best judge as to how you learn.

Is the equation sheet given during the practice final the same as the one that will be given for the actual final?

I will post a copy of the exam cover and equation sheets for the final exam tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

No they are different sheets.

On problem 1 of the practice final how are you to find R_dot_dot? I understand that the speed of P is a.e_r so then you would get an expression R_dot_dot - R*theta_dot^2 and I know how to find R and theta_dot but how do you find R_dot_dot?

You shouldn't need R_double_dot.

You're only looking for phi_dot which is the angular velocity. So, you want to use the equation:

V = R_dot*Er + R*phi_dot*Ephi

For the second part of number one, we use conservation of energy correct?
Therefore:
KE_1 + work = KE_2

I think:
work = tension * (r_2 – r_1) ?
How do you calculate the tension force?

Thanks
