Question about English Units

For problems like 3.208 and 3.252, lb means pound force right? I assume this is right but the book doesn't clearly state it in the problems.

Yea, you have to use pound force so you must divide out 32.17 ft/s2 to get the correct solution. I think all of the problems are set up with lb-force unless otherwise stated

Yes, for this textbook "lb" represents force, not mass. If you go back to Section 1/4 of the textbook (page 8), the authors state there that the US customary units are used exclusively in the textbook. For this system, lb = force and slug = mass.
