Homework Problem 7/24


Suggestions:
  • Attach XYZ to ground (fixed axes)
  • Attach observer and xyz to boom.
  • At the instant shown, xyz and XYZ are aligned.

Be careful when solving for acceleration and velocity. I had switched a negative to a positive sign and it took me quite a while to figure out what I did wrong.

In this problem, the instant required is when angle Beta=30. So i guess xyz and XYZ are not aligned at this instant.
Is this right?

That all depends on how you align your axes. If you put x along the boom, then no. However, in the figure provided with this post they are.

The alignment is your choice. The final magnitudes will be unchanged by the alignment.
