Homework Problem 3/57

Is there any force from friction in this problem? If so, why not?

You are to treat the contacting surface between the particle and the inside of the tube as being smooth. Otherwise, we would need to know the coefficient of kinetic friction for the contact since the sliding friction would be mu_k*N.

The authors should have included this as part of the problem statement. Unfortunately, they did not.

Sorry that this was not clear in the problem statement. Thanks for asking.
