At point A are we to assume friction? I read the problem like there should be 2 friction forces(on top of the bar and on the bottom).
it says smooth, so it wants you to assume there is no friction.
Should we draw the spring force and the dashpot force to act on the center of the drum as well as on the bar? thanks.
The spring forces should be drawn on the FBD where they act in the problem. That is, these forces go on the bar, not on the wheel.
