Problem 5/162

This problem does not specify if 'u' and 'w' are indeed constant. Can this be assumed safely, or should the (a)rel and alpha be left in the solution as unknowns? Is there something else I am missing here involving these?

You are correct; we do not know if u or omega are constant.

However, note that the question is not asking for the total acceleration of A. Rather, it is asking only for the Coriolis component of the acceleration of A: 2*(omega)x(v_A)_rel. For this you do not need to know either alpha or (a_A)_rel.
