Since the coordinate system is flipped in this problem, (x downward and y to the left) I'm a little confused which way k is pointing. Is positive k in or out of the page?
The coordinate system is rotated 90 degrees from what you'd expect. If you apply the right hand rule (start with x, curl to y), you'll see that k is still out of the page
Unfortunately the authors have chosen an xyz coordinate system that has the "z" direction INTO the page (curl fingers on your right hand from x to y has your thumb pointing into the page).
If you keep the coordinate system as shown, you will need to recognize that since automobile B is rotating CW, the omega vector for B is into the page making omega point in the positive "k" direction.
If you would like to redefine your set of coordinate axes to have "z" out of the page, that is OK (and therefore having CW rotation of B pointing in the negative "k" direction). Please clearly indicate this change in coordinate axes in your solution.
Thanks for pointing out this. Sorry for any confusion that this choice of coordinate axes might have created.
Let us know if you have any questions on this.
